Tapella, the 25th Public Printer of the United States on how electronic media, digital printing and sustainability imperatives will change the way the world communicates followed by a networking reception, hosted by the M.A. Program in Graphic Communications Management and Technology at NYU-SCPS.

New York, NY- The Institute for Sustainable Communication(ISC), the Graduate Program in Graphic Communication Management and Technology at the New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS), and the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) invite you to join Robert C. Tapella, the 25th Public Printer of the United States, and Don Carli, ISC Senior Research Fellow, for an informed dialogue about the dramatic changes sweeping global media supply chains and how they are likely to change our ability to access information and inform our decisions.

This free event is open to the public, but seating is limited and RSVP REQUIRED. For those who are unable to participate in person, a live web feed of the dialogue will also be streamed providing ability to post comments and questions via twitter.

Topics to be discussed will include:
  • How digital technology and social media are changing the way legislators and the public can generate and gain access to information.
  • How technology change and sustainability imperatives are transforming the knowledge and skills required of the GPO and its supply chain.
  • How new offset printing, digital printing & sustainability management software will change the way information is created, stored and shared.

ISC and The M.A Program in Graphic Communications Management and Technology at NYU will be presenting an ongoing series of seminars, webinars and colloquia focusing on sustainable print and digital media supply chains. Some of the questions that these events will address include:

  • What are some of the steps being taken by industry and government to discourage “greenwash” and reduce the negative impacts of print and digital media supply chains?

  • Is our growing reliance on digital information technology and digital media really sustainable?

  • How can QR codes and Augmented Reality be used to enhance the sustainability of media?

  • What are your legal obligations under the Lacey Act when it comes to buying & using paper?

  • What can be done to reduce the carbon footprint and toxic impacts of e-readers?

  • What are some of the real environmental impacts associated with print and digital media?

  • What is lifecycle analysis and how can it be used to inform our decisions?

  • What are some of the current limitations of lifecycle analysis and eco-labeling?

ISC’s Urban Scholar program provides Micro-Scholarships to academically promising young men and women in the US to help them complete their college degrees and mentoring to inspire them to assume leadership roles in their communities. These micro-scholarships of $500 to $1500 are paid directly to the colleges that ISC’s urban scholars are enrolled in and our mentoring efforts provide students with access to business, nonprofit and government leaders.

The M.A in Graphic Communications Management and Technology provides students with critical leadership skills, builds expertise in management practices, and illuminates the capabilities of emerging technologies.

Students in the M.A. Program may apply for the PRISM scholarship each Fall and Spring semester, due to the generosity of our Advisory Board. These Board members share their experience, knowledge and vision as faculty, invite distinguished guest lecturers to the classroom; host industry events; provide career guidance; and mentor students. Applications are welcome now for Spring, Summer and Fall 2010 semesters.
